WeddingChannel.com Teams Up with High-End Cake Designer

Spa_week_cake_alchemy_300 Last night, the WeddingChannel.com team attended the annual Spa Week media party to get the word out about the latest beauty trends for brides. Though the party's always fun, we wanted our table to really stand out. We, of course, turned to one of our favorite NYC cake designers for fast (and fabulous) help. Meet Lauri Ditunno, owner of Cake Alchemy. (Alchemy is interpersonal chemistry that brings people together. Or the magical power, or process of transforming a common substance a substance of great value.) You may recognize her from season one of WE’s Amazing Wedding Cakes. Why do we adore Cake Alchemy so much? Lauri and team whipped up this gorgeous (and yummy) cake with really short notice, and everyone who had a taste came back for more! WC Hearts You, Cake Alchemy.

Jennifer Hudson: Dogs in the Wedding Party A Must

Jennifer_hudson_wedding_dog

It’s been a few weeks since we’ve had an update for you about Jennifer Hudson’s upcoming wedding. She’s one of the few starlets left out there not rushing right to the altar. She’s been engaged to beau David Otunga since last fall, and has slowly been revealing details about her big day.

People.com reports that Hudson will include her dogs, Oscar, Grammy and Dream Girl, (love the names, Jennifer!) in her wedding ceremony. She said, “I want my dogs to be in my wedding. I am so serious.”

I’ll spare you the quippy clichés here but I must admit, it’s usually in my nature to mock someone who wants to include a pet in her wedding. However, I have faith that the fabulous Ms. Hudson can make her puppies charming, not cheesy, additions to her wedding. And as always, we went ahead an took the liberty of making a few suggestions for her.

If she wants to make her furry friends look fabulous on her big day, we recommend she browse these sites: "Doggy couture" designer, Emma Rose, has some fierce little ensembles on her site. Or, for a more demure approach, try a wedding bow from "Best Pet."

We’re also hearing rumors that Hudson will design her own “traditional, but very very classy” wedding dress. We have our doubts about that one -- do divas do DIY? I suppose we’ll find out soon enough.

Shaky Beau Drops Ring off Brooklyn Bridge During Fumbled Proposal

We usually use this column to highlight the antics of brides around the country who become national news, but the honor for biggest slip-up this week goes to a groom-to-be. New Yorker, Don Walling, put in a valiant effort to set up a sweet proposal for his girlfriend Gina Pellicani on the pedestrian walkway of the Brooklyn Bridge today, but things so did not go as planned.

With his family members eagerly watching and his sister-in-law taping the whole thing (lucky for us!) Walling got down on one knee to propose to his lady love, then accidentally dropped the bling through the boards of the walkway down into the traffic below.

I laughed out loud when I watched this video of the incident. It might be awful of me but please take a peek at his utterly dumbfounded face when he realizes what he's done, and then you try not to laugh! Anyway, don't fret, all ended well. Walling jumped down to the lanes below and, with a little help from his family up above, was able to retrieve the ring.

NBC New York reports that Walling's friends have been calling ever since the story broke, telling Pellicani to be sure he doesn't hold their first child, “just in case”. (Guilty chuckles -- hey they said it, not me!) Walling plans to re-propose after the ring is repaired. Hopefully he chooses somewhere indoors with a carpeted floor next time. One thing is certain, he and his girlfriend will remember this day forever.
