Hello, my name is Ben and my fiancé’s name is Jen. When we get married any place would be the perfect place as long as I am with the love of my life! Our story begins on the first day of high school when an angel walked into my life and I immediately fell in love.
Jen and I became really close friends throughout all of high school but due her having a long term boyfriend I knew we could never be together, despite my feelings for her. By the time we graduated I had fallen even more in love with her, but she still had her boyfriend. I decided to serve our country and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and would be headed off to boot camp as soon as school was over, so Jen and I moved our separate ways. Jen and I kept in contact during my enlistment and every time I went back home on leave it was my goal to see her as much as I could.
In early 2007 I deployed to Fallujah, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. During this time, Jen and I kept in contact only via a few emails and a couple long distant phone calls. This deployment turned out to be an extremely difficult time for Jen. She would always tell me to wear my protective gear at all times, even when I was sleeping, and that she prayed for me every night. Even though we were not dating, the emotions felt were true and proved how much love we had for each other.
I arrived back to the United States safely, after many months of hard work. The first thing I wanted to do when I got home was visit Jen, and show her that I was ok. When I finally got to see her, Jen and I finally discussed our true feelings for each other after all those long years. Jen told me that when I was gone she realized that she loved me and broke up with her boyfriend, but wanted to wait to tell me in person. When she said this, my heart melted. I told her that I had been in love with her since the first day I saw her. I also told her that the whole time I was in Iraq I carried her picture with me and told all the guys that she was the girl I would marry one day. That night marked the beginning of our long distance relationship. Only a few short weeks later I had to leave again. Leaving Jen is the hardest thing I have ever had to do.
Currently, I have been overseas for more than two years serving as a Marine Security Guard protecting U.S. Embassies around the world. During this time of my thirty six month deployment Jen has been facing extremely difficult challenges back home, she has been very ill, and her family has practically lost everything do to the economy. Even though Jen was ill she was able to take her family under her wing and provide for them the best she could. She has gone through so much that no one should ever have to go through. On top of that she is dealing with the love of her life being far away in dangerous parts of the world for three straight years.
I couldn't ask for anything more, Jen is doing great with our given situation while keeping a big beautiful smile on her face. I will be done with this three year deployment in about eight months and will finally be allowed to marry the love of my life. I only want the best for Jen; I will give her all I have, and I believe this destination wedding would be a great start!
