Mad_men_peggy_375

Talk about a match made in TV heaven – sexy Mad Men star, Elizabeth Moss is ready to tie the knot with the President of the United States (or at least a guy who looks an awful lot like him.). USA Today confirmed the actress’ engagement to Saturday Night Live funnyman, Fred Armisen (who spent most of last year perfecting his impersonation of Barack Obama).

"It happened just a few days ago," Moss admitted. "It's private, so I don't want to share the details of how it happened, but I will say it was perfect."

Update: Lost Gifts Returned to Bride and Groom!

Bride_Christine_Herrick_taxi_gifts Earlier this week, we told you about David Fitzhenry and Christine Herrick, the New York newlyweds who lost their wedding gifts after their cab sped off with them still in the trunk. Happily, the crisis has been averted, thanks in part the the couple's quick-thinking fam, who immediately starting raising hell with the NYC Taxi Cab Commission while the couple enjoyed their honeymoon vacation in Mexico.

According to WNBC New York, officials were able to track down the cab based on the picture the couple took in front of the car that showed a unique Pepsi logo it carried on top. Officials confirmed that over 250 cabs in the city carry the same logo, but with the help of the cab's GPS system, they were able to identify the driver and track him down.

Earlier this week, the couple's family learned that the driver in question had dropped the gifts off with the bride and groom's doorman, and all their presents were now waiting for them as soon as they got back from their vacation.

Moral of the story: Wedding gifts are best given before the wedding date, rather than on the night of ceremony. Don't make your favorite bride or groom carry the burden -- they're likely to lose it if given half the chance.

Michelle Obama’s Inaugural Ball Gown

Michelle_obama_dress_2

Yesterday was a magical day for Americans. Of course, we could go on-and-on about how historic and moving President Barack Obama’s inauguration was, but, right now we must pause to applaud our new favorite style icon – First Lady Michelle Obama. In the true spirit of change, last night, instead of trusting a famed designer to dress her for the inaugural ball, she picked a gorgeous ivory one-shouldered gown by relatively unknown (until yesterday!) designer Jason Wu. Mrs. Obama knows what works for her body and she’s not afraid to take risks. We’re sure you’ll agree that she looks absolutely stunning from head to toe in this custom silk chiffon gown.

Choosing a gown with a fitted bodice and flared skirt, like the First Lady’s, works well for curvy, pear-shaped, and tall brides. Want this look for your wedding? We found three great gown inspirations fresh from the runways for your consideration:

If You’re a Modern Bride: The silk satin chiffon Rita Gown from Vineyard is a great option for you. Its one-shoulder cap sleeve makes a sexy statement of sophistication and the jewel encrusted brooch, cross-draped bust and low squared back really seal the deal. (Also available in Ivory.)

If You’re a Princess Bride: Try this silk satin one-shoulder ball gown from Priscilla of Boston. It features a hand-pleated drop waist and crystal encrusted blooming silk satin flowers along the bust line. (It can be custom fit for your exact measurements and comes in white also.)

If You’re a Romantic Bride: This lace sheath one-shoulder sheath from Monique Lhullier has a sexy strapless bodice and lots of romantic detailing.

Jezebel Blogger Asks: “Should You Throw Your Ring in a Fight?”

Jezebel_ring_400

You’re engaged. He loves you. You love him. BUT, now that you have a wedding to plan together and your stress-levels have risen, you’re fighting a lot more than usual. It’s not fun, but hey, it happens. And, when it does, many a woman has been known to hurl her ring at her soon to be hubby for dramatic effect. The thing is, even after you’ve kissed and made up (which nine times out of ten you will), that pricey ring you pretended not to care about as you flung it in spite, isn’t always so easy to locate post-fight.

On Jezebel, a guest-blogging bride-to-be named Tracie writes about tossing her engagement ring down the stairwell in her building during a huge falling out with her fiancé, and the panic that ensued.

“It took us what seemed like forever to find that (bleeping) ring,” Tracie blogs. “It was wedged between the floor and the molding on the wall a few flights below. That was the last time I took it off. After that, I stopped being so dramatic... and he stopped drinking whiskey.”

Now she wants to know if you’d do the same, and if so, are you willing to risk not ever having it again just to make your point? We say “no way” and Tracie regrets it big time.

“I felt like such a bitch after I did that, but was thankful that I threw it in an enclosed place and not out the window or something,” she writes. “My mom told me that her friend threw her engagement ring at her fiancé on a Queens street...and never saw it again. (They've been married for over 30 years now.)”

So, would you, or wouldn’t you? Vote now, and then read up on how to keep all your engagement ring and wedding band safe.

P.S. If you have a engagement ring-throwing horror story to share, we’d LOVE to hear it! (The best ones will be featured in an upcoming feature on WeddingChannel.

Couple Leaves Wedding Gifts in Taxi Trunk After Wedding

Bride_Christine_Herrick_taxi_gifts When New York couple David Fitzhenry and Christine Herrick hailed a taxi after their wedding reception on Saturday night, the evening was like a dream – a dream that quickly became their worst nightmare. Christine slipped on a patch of ice upon exiting the cab, and as everyone rushed to her aid, the driver pulled off with a large canister filled with their gifts (including money) and keepsakes still sitting in his trunk.

"It was a spectacular wedding. Everybody was so happy and that just put a damper on it,” said Jim Fitzhenry, the groom’s father to the Daily News. "They are very, very upset. These are personal items."

There were actual checks, keepsakes like the cake-cutting-knife, and unopened wedding gifts inside the canister they forget to take with them. The couple didn’t sleep that night and the groom was so stressed out he considered postponing their honeymoon plans.

"I suspect the driver of this cab doesn't know it's in the back of his car," said Fitzhenry.

While the couple headed to Mexico with the hopes of not letting this spoil their honeymoon, their families are working with the city’s Taxi and Limousine Commission to try and track down the lost items.

"We have been in extensive touch with the family, and are, as we speak, employing the new GPS technology system to isolate this ride and find the lost property," Commissioner Matthew Daus told the press.

This just sucks all around! Though it’s always sad to hear about lost or stolen wedding gifts, we should point out that this wedding disaster was totally avoidable. The bride and groom should never be responsible for transporting their own gifts. Assign someone to handle this in advance and have a detailed plan for how your gifts will be transported after the wedding. Wedding etiquette experts all agree that bringing a gift to a wedding is not ideal. Instead, send it ahead of time to a close friend or family member. When it comes to monetary gifts, prearrange for someone to be in charge of transporting it to a safe place like a bank or a hotel safe.

Hot Celebrity Wedding Trends for ’09: Comfort Food

Cwb_pie_san_sharon_patrick_077 Is it any surprise on a cold, blustery New York day, we’re thinking about yummy goodies to fill our tummies? Thankfully, we’re not the only folks with a weakness for comfort foods.

Behavioral psychologists suggest that when the economy takes a nosedive, people seek out hearty and filling foods since they bring to mind safety and tradition – stars being no exception to the rule. Ellen DeGeneres and Portia Di Rossi served beef sliders at their fall wedding, while Backstreet BoysHowie Dorough skipped traditional wedding cake fare and opted for a thick and creamy multi-tiered cheesecake instead.

If neither of these celeb-inspired menu choices rocks your socks, you can always think about other comfort food options for your reception table. We love the mod-cool factor of chowder or chili sliders, mini macaroni and cheeses, and mom’s homemade pie. No matter what you choose, keep in a mind, it only takes a minimal effect (i.e. a small serving – after all everyone’s counting calories these days!) to make a big impression on your guests.
