Groom Gets Cold Feet and Sets Venue on Fire

Headlessbridewithbouqetchungliphoto I don't know how we missed this one girls, but boy do I have a scandalous bridal news item to share with you today. Apparently last week, 39-year-old Japanese groom-to-be Tatsuhiko Kawata set fire to his wedding venue in order to get out of the ceremony. Pause for reaction… say what!?!

In the early morning hours, the office worker started a blaze at a hotel in Yamanashi Prefecture (90 minutes outside of Tokyo) where he was to marry his fiancé later that day. He didn’t do as much damage as he’d hoped. The fire was quickly contained, guests staying at the hotel were evacuated, and there were no injuries reported. The couple had planned to wed in front of 80 of their closest friends and family members. Kawata wasn’t arrested until he suddenly called off the wedding and started behaving in a suspicious manner. He later confessed to police.

“I thought if I set a fire I wouldn’t have to go through with the wedding,” he’s said to have told police.

Some reports are saying he wanted out because he was still secretly married to another woman, but that has not been confirmed. Either way, there are no words for how wrong this groom-gone-bad’s actions were. Shameful! Thoughts, ladies?

Sarah is absolutely right. The Asian culture is very unlike our own, in many ways, and, like she said, it probably would have been a much worse situation for him if he had just called the wedding off. However, it is still a chicken way to break off a wedding, and she is definitely lucky in that she found out BEFORE the fact that he is a scuzzball.

Also, if he is in fact already married, then he is an uber-scuzzball.

I read the article. This guy was already married, and getting married to another woman? That's something I'd like the FULL scoop on. I'm sure that's illegal in Japan lol

Although he did a very cowardly thing I do not pass judgement on him. I don't know both sides of the story, maybe she is crazy and he was terrified to tell her no. Maybe he is just a nut job, in any case I feel bad for them both.

To save face is very much an Asian custom. He probably did not want to shame his family by breaking off the marriage. I think that it is sad that he felt he couldnt have broken it off another way. I am planning my wedding now and cannot wait to marry my fiance but can definetly see how things get out of control very quickly.

He is a LIAR and a CHEAT! But i guess he already knows that. And if he is secretly married to another woman, why is he getting married with ANOTHER one? These 2 women deserve better than a jackass like him. May he burn in hell. :-)

He probably thought that if it was a "natural disaster" that forced the reception venue to cancel the wedding that he would get all of his deposits back... If he just walked away he would be out of pocket every cent.

What a nut! Seems like there is a serious lack of communication that went on between them. Thank God he did not hurt anyone and she did not marry this loony bin.

Wow I never thought I would catch myself reading about someone actually setting a fire to try to get out their own wedding...he could've at least ran away....but setting a fire??? He's very stupid if you ask me.

Seriously, that is the most awful thing I've ever heard anyone do on their wedding day. But if he is the kind of person to act so rash, couldn't she tell that he didn't really want to be with her in the first place? The signs had to be there!

O-M-G!!! Coward, jerk, idiot...all are too good of names for this..not going to call him a MAN..A MAN would have just said NO and left his fiance' with a broken heart. My heart goes out to her. I hope she finds someone who is worthy of her. As for this person, he should have to pay for everything and I truly hope she suits him for "Breach of Promise". Would serve him right. My heart goes out to all the guests lives he almost, took, also.

What a disgusting excuse for a man. Poor woman who almost ended up with the wallowing pig. Hopefully she can move on after such humiliation and find a DECENT man.
