Fall ’08 Wedding Essentials: Antique Bird Cages

Birdcages

For the last and final time, folks, organic elegance is in, in, IN for fall! We've told you about barn weddings and romantic, harvest-inspired details, and now we're "falling" once again for yet another decorative wedding  essential: antique bird cages.

We love the delicate Victorian look and style, and we've seen them implemented beautifully in the past as table centerpieces, wedding card holders and even as a cake cage. Now Florist Niki Delacueva from R. Jack Balthaza has taken it to the next level. For Good Charlotte guitarist Billy Martin's wedding to long-time girlfriend, Linzi Williamson, the florist actually created stunning chandeliers and candelabras using antique bird cages.

Want to recreate this look for your own wedding but find yourself on a tight budget? Start by searching online. We find some great vendors (we loved the bright Victorian offerings at Northfork Pets and Antiques and the ornate Venetian designs of The Interior Gallery), but we really struck gold on Ebay where cages were as low as $20.

(Trust us, this is one wedding must-have that's definitely not just for the birds.)

I appreciate your honest post here on. As hard as it is to believe, it is possible you overlooked the few things in question. It would appear it has become a little out of hand with a so much of information to manage about. As a experienced person of nearly 15 years, i must say i totally agree with you on.

If only the cake prices were as reasonable as the cupcakes, but really, at $8 a slice, I will sacrifice "gracefulness" with the fun designs of cupcakes@

I've worked in catering for years and I hate when they serve cupcakes at a wedding. They are not graceful to eat at all. With a slice of cake you can use a fork. With a cupcake you have to stick the thing in your mouth - frosting gets on the face and crumbs get all over the clothes. They can look great but are not eater-friendly.

LOVE the idea of cake cages. More so a cupcake cake tower enclosed in a cage. However I am still struggling with how to execute that idea. Anyone have suggestions!!!?
