Create the Ultimate Alice in Wonderland Themed Wedding
Themed weddings go hand-in-hand with Hollywood's need for drama, but that doesn't mean recreating one requires an A-list budget. While rock star couple Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson opted for a late night goth-inspired salute to Alice in Wonderland for their wedding in May, we think we prefer our "I do's" set to an early afternoon tea party where you reign as the ultimate Queen of Hearts.
Through the Looking Glass -- Picture it: A whimsical wedding invitation to the Mad Hatter’s tea party leads your guests to a proper English garden full of wild flowers and fanciful topiaries. Ladew Gardens in Monkton, MD and Green Animals Topiary Garden in Portsmouth, are just two of our favorite Alice-inspired wedding locals. While your personal style may very, you’ll have your "something blue" covered with this chic "Drink Me" necklace from Etsy ($60).
Eat Me, Drink Me, -- Continue your garden affair with an afternoon tea party complete with traditional finger foods like biscuits and jam and cucumber sandwiches with a leisurely game of croquet to follow. Gift your guests with specially themed favors like Wedding Channel's personalized tea bags (32.75 for 24) or A Time for Tea gift boxes that come complete with key lime cookies and mint julep tea ($4.50) each. Skip an overly-expensive Mad Hatter cake and instead "top" off your event with card-inspired cupcakes decorated with Fancy Flours' (a favorite site of craft queen Martha Stewart!) character figurines ($35).
With these playful elements in your wedding arsenal, you're sure to avoid falling down any hole – financial, rabbit, or otherwise.
